Drama

I’m very excited.

Lizzy the Drama Queen!

In school we have to write and act out a play. And I even have some lines in it. It’s about a group of fellas who rob a post office. Mrs O’Malley (she’s our head teacher) said to me and Debbie Molloy that she didn’t think it was propriate or something like that. We said that Mrs Prince said that we should write it about something in the news. Mrs O’ Malley said,
“The next time girls, you should consider The Angelus.”
She nearly caught me and Debbie laughing but she just walked out.

So in the play, some of us stand in a line as if we are in the queue, the rest are behind desks. Mary Saunders has to shout,

“HANDS UP
EVERYBODY DOWN ON THE FLOOR.
NOBODY MOVE AND YOU WON’T GET HURT.”

Then Rita Jones has to pretend to faint. Mary Kelly is her husband in it. She’s not happy about playing a man but Mrs Prince said the she was not getting boys in from the boys school. So Mary has to hug Rita to try to make her feel better.

While all this is going on I have to pretend that I’m just a customer.  Mrs Prince said I have to act like I am someone who is guilty pretending to be someone who is innocent. When I told my brother Jim about it he said he thought I’d be great at doing that cos I do it every day. He thinks he’s so funny!

curtain spotlight
Lizzy loves the spotlight!

So the robbers are shouting at the girls, telling them to put money in the bags. Then Siobhan Rafferty stands up (she’s a man aswell, but she doesn’t mind) and she says,
“I’m a policeman and you’re all under arrest.”

THAT’S when I stand up and get to say my lines. I have to jump up and hold my hands like a gun to the policemen til the robbers collect all the money and we run out.
I can’t wait. Mam said she’ll come and see it. It’s on at the end of the term.
It’s going to be brilliant.

Oh I never told you my lines! I say, “SHUT UP! DON’T MOVE, DO YOU HEAR ME?”

I think they’re the best lines in the whole play!

  1. This is why teachers must be careful when giving writing assignments. Play assignments? You never know what’s going to come up.

    • It’s actually baased on a true story but the actual play was about a plane being hijacked. You’re talking about 1979 or something like that.
You’d never let kids do that now! LOL

  2. What a great line. Can I borrow it? I’m glad stupid questions aren’t on a sin list. Can’t wait to see more of your posts. Thanks for stopping by my place.

    • Thanks so much David. She seems to be coming in to her own.
I’ve heard authors talk about how real their characters become, never really understood that concept – but I think I’m starting to 😀

  3. I don’t recall ever being asked to write and act out anything at school. We did drama, but nothing as grand as being asked to plan and write anything. I wished we had 🙂
